about

'Suburban Electrification' was composed entirely on a Nord Modular G2 synthesizer and was recorded in Edinburgh between December 2010 and February 2011.

The idea behind the album was for me to put to one side the lengthier drone-based pieces I'd been working with for a while and attempt something based on other constraints: short-tracks; utilising only one instrument; and generally employing standard rhythmic techniques - all things I'm not normally comfortable doing.

The album was originally intended for release on cassette in the middle of 2011 but never materialised. And so here, in all its myriad 'glory', is 'Suburban Electrification'. I have mixed feelings about this album, for reasons I won't go into. In fact, I haven't listened to it in over 9 months; I remember the music being very sad in places, and that's how it's turned out: I'm sorry. The whole album is offered here freely for download. Make of it what you will. And please feel free to share.
